Nottingham Food and Drink Festival Produces Tasty Results - Go dine

If you were in Nottingham between the 4th and the 8th of July 2012, you may have noticed the crowds surrounding the market square. These crowds gathered, despite the torrential downpours, to celebrate Nottingham?s fourth annual Food and Drink festival.

Offering the same fantastic selection of regional food and drink stalls as well as encouraging a varied programme of events and master classes in restaurants and bars across the city centre, this year?s festival included several new elements. A real ale house, offering samples from the region?s breweries and microbreweries, and an extended demo theatre hosted by celebrity chef Richard Fox helped to draw thousands of brave visitors out into the unpredictable weather to enjoy what the festival has offer ? which also resulted in increased revenue for many of the participating venues.

The Lace Market Hotel?secured 120 bookings for afternoon tea via its stall in the Market Square, representing over ?2,000 worth of new business. Homemade Caf? in Pelham Street benefitted from having a presence at the market:

?Our paella stall proved incredibly popular,? commented Jasmin Barlow-Wilkinson, owner of Homemade Caf?. ?Despite the weather, we worked out that we were approximately 50 per cent busier than the Festival in 2011.

?The Caf? itself was also significantly busier and it proved to be a great way to introduce potential new customers to what we have to offer.?

The Festival was once again organised by We Are Nottingham Leisure, the Business Improvement District (BID) for licensed premises in the city centre.

Chief executive Sylvia Oates was impressed with the turn out:

?The weather conditions were challenging, and torrential rain prevented us from opening the market, demo theatre and Ale House for an entire day. Despite that, it?s heartening that so many people turned out and that many traders were able to report a profit increase.

?The Festival has cemented itself in Nottingham?s summer events calendar and the turnout shows that the variety of the city?s food and drink scene is a big draw.

?It was great to see the new additions for 2012 proving so popular, with Richard Fox and local chefs pulling in the crowds at the demo theatre, and the Ale House welcoming in excess of 1,000 visitors.?

The festival has also helped to create some more personal success stories as Former New College Nottingham student Liam Atkinson landed his first job after impressing the backstage demo team. He has now started work along Craig Thomas of Aurora in the Lace Market.

?I?m delighted that, once again, the Festival has been so warmly welcomed and has actually managed to produce tangible results for venues and individuals, such as Liam,? concluded Sylvia.

So that?s it for another year but Nottingham doesn?t go to sleep when the festival ends ? don?t forget that the Splendour festival is on at Wollaton Hall this weekend and the Festival of Nottingham is coming up in October!
