Chocolate Cake Batter Milkshake

This post is sponsored by got milk? in partnership with local California organizations that educate kids about the importance of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle.

Drinking an entire glass of chocolate cake batter sure beats the one or two measly licks of the batter that?s on the beaters after I?m finished mixing up a chocolate cake.

Then again I?ve never met a batch of cake batter, brownie batter, or cookie dough that I didn?t love to snag a few tastes of.

Plus, it?s summer and it?s hot.

And I?d rather drink my cake than turn on the oven and bake one.

Have your cake and eat it, too.

Have your cake and drink it, too.

But it really doesn?t have to be summer to drink cake batter.

Cake batter is a food, or drink, for all seasons.

There?s a generous scoop of ice cream and a cup of whole milk in the milkshake making it plenty creamy and very rich.

Gather your all-star lineup of ingredients.

You could likely use cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and flour in proper ratios totaling one-half cup to approximate cake mix (see recipe notes) instead of using actual cake mix. However, I like cake mix and I like shortcuts.

Select whatever cake mix you have open ? chocolate, vanilla, white, yellow, or strawberry cake mix ? you do have at least six different boxes of cake mix open at any given time, right?

You can also use brownie mix for a brownie batter milkshake.

Add one half cup of mix, a hearty scoop of ice cream, milk, chocolate sauce, vanilla, and give ?er a whirl.

Adding the milk first so the cake mix floats on top of the milk rather than sitting on the blender blade makes for better blending.

Rim the glass in whipped topping or ice cream and then dip the glass in cake batter in order to get a little extra cake batter to stick to the rim.

Only if you?re interested.

Garnish with sprinkles and anything else that floats your cake batter milkshake boat.

Don?t spill sprinkles all over in your utter excitement over this milkshake.

I really had to from going crazy with more ice cream on top, whipped topping, drizzling chocolate and caramel sauce, or adding a dollop of homemade peanut butter on top.

I figured what I had in the glass was already plenty going on and it is swimsuit season after all.

Chocolate Cake Batter Milkshake

Makes about 12 ounces, 1 large milkshake or 2 smaller portions

1 cup milk

1 cup or 1 large scoop ice cream

1/2 cup boxed devil?s food cake chocolate cake mix* or boxed brownie mix

2 to 4+ tablespoons chocolate syrup, divided

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

whipped topping for garnishing, optional

sprinkles for garnishing, optional

Combine milk, ice cream (I have made this with vanilla cookie dough, vanilla, and chocolate ice cream ? use what you have), cake mix, at least 2 tablespoons chocolate sauce, and vanilla in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

Optionally, before serving, dip the rim of the glass in whipped topping or run ice cream-dipped fingers around the rim so it?s moistened and sticky. Dip the moistened rim into a shallow bowl with cake mix, graham cracker crumbs, or sprinkles. Garnish milkshake with whipped topping, sprinkles, a drizzle of Nutella, peanut butter, or chocolate syrup as desired. Serve immediately.

*Notes: Make your own cake mix by combining approximately 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, and 1 tablespoon flour.

What?s in your favorite milkshake?

I think I just made mine. Chocolate cake batter (or brownie batter), chocolate sauce, cold milk, creamy cookie dough ice cream, and sprinkles. No complaints.

Are you a milk drinker?

When I was a kid, my mom used to joke and say we needed a milk machine in our house because I could polish off a half-gallon a day, easy.

As an adult, there is simply no substitute for real cream in my coffee. I?d rather have nothing than have almond milk or soymilk in coffee.
