Boy dies after being run over by trailer at Annapolis Fourth of July parade

A 7-year-old boy who died during Annapolis' Fourth of July parade was stepping off a moving trailer when he fell and was run over, city police said.

The single-axle trailer was being pulled down Amos Garrett Boulevard about 7 p.m., preparing to enter the parade route.

The boy, who police did not identify, was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he died. Police did not provide more information on the vehicle or driver.

The parade began at 6:30 p.m. at Amos Garrett Boulevard and West Street, continuing down West, around Church Circle and down Main Street.

The accident is being investigated by the Annapolis Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
